I've been very happy with the KitchenAid brand over the years, so I hope this is just an isolated incident. But now, just over a year later, both knobs have broken and fallen off, and it's stopped working. After reading all the reviews, I decided to give this toaster a try after our last toaster died. But one side died after only a month, so I returned to amazon and requested a new one.
Overall, a wonderful improvement over my old toaster. P.S. This stainless steel toaster is stainless inside and has stainless crumb trays. It's pretty big and takes up a fair amount of counter space. If you spray a bit of WD-40 on a napkin and wipe down the exterior of the toaster, fingerprints won't show. It makes great toast and does bagels really well. The only thing making it four star instead of five star is that toast and bagels aren't the same color from top to bottom - not enough to affect flavor, just visual.
It toasts and warms perfectly. We have had our toaster for only one month, but we truly love it. A great buy. Bagels are exactly how I like them crisp outside with a chewy inside. It matches all of my other red Kitchen aid appliances perfect. I have never spent so much on a toaster, but this was well worth the investment.
The delivery is horrible, or worse.Time to check out Amazon's competition for this and other purchases I guess. Amazon says shipment is long on this toaster. In fact it is terrible: one to three months.We surmise that the iron mine is notified of an order and goes to work mining the metal to make the toaster.
The bagel/english muffin feature works like a charm, toasting the inside and lightly browning the outside. The appearance is very industrial and boxy, but this goes with our stainless steel/commercial kitchen. After years of frustration and expensive repairs to my Dualit ("used in Queen Elizabeth's royal household"), I decided I needed a more practical toaster. This model is somewhat more expensive than most competitors, but it is sturdy and I expect many years of use. We keep the KitchenAid in an appliance garage and leave the nicely polished Dualit 4-Slice Toaster, Chrome on the counter top for decor, which is about its only use. The KitchenAid 4 slice toaster WORKS. It toasts to exactly the right shade of brown and promptly pops up.
